Variegated Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum), 4-Inch Pot
Bring graceful stripes to a bright shelf with this variegated spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum). Narrow green-and-cream leaves arch outward in a lively fountain shape. As an established plant grows, it may produce long stems with small plantlets.
Size and what ships
One live variegated spider plant in a 4-inch nursery grow pot. Leaf length, fullness, and any existing plantlets vary at shipping. With suitable care the plant may become broader and produce trailing offsets over time; a mature hanging display is not what ships.
Optional decorative planters
Style your plant with the black BASEL 4.7-inch planter or the white BASEL 4.7-inch planter. Decorative planters are sold separately and are not included; the plant ships in its 4-inch nursery grow pot. Furnishings are not included.
Care guide
- Light: Bright indirect light supports clear striping and steady growth. It can tolerate somewhat lower light, but avoid harsh direct afternoon sun.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the upper inch of potting mix feels dry, then let excess drain. Reduce frequency in cooler months and avoid letting the pot sit in water.
- Soil: Use an airy, well-draining indoor potting mix in a pot with drainage. Ready to repot? Shop our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately.
- Temperature and humidity: Normal warm indoor temperatures and average household humidity generally suit it. Keep away from frost and strong drying vents.
- Feeding: Feed lightly during active spring and summer growth, if needed, with a balanced slow-release houseplant fertilizer according to its label directions. Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately. Excess fertilizer can contribute to browned tips. Reduce or pause feeding in winter, and skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning and grooming: Trim dry leaf tips with clean scissors.
- Repotting: Repot one size up if roots crowd the pot, using fresh, well-draining mix and a container with drainage holes.
- Propagation: If the mature plant grows plantlets, they can be rooted in water or potting mix and separated when established.
