Sea Shell Succulent (Adromischus cristatus) grows plump, wedge-shaped green leaves with rippled edges that resemble tiny scalloped shells. Its compact form brings sculptural texture to a bright windowsill or a small succulent display.
Points of interest
- Thick leaves have distinctive crinkled tips, giving this plant its other common name, crinkle-leaf plant.
- A softly textured leaf surface adds to its unusual appearance.
- Older stems may develop fine brown aerial roots, a natural feature of this plant.
- Slow, compact growth makes it well suited to small containers.
What you’ll receive and mature size
You’ll receive one live Sea Shell Succulent growing in a 4-inch nursery pot. Shipping size, fullness and leaf shape vary naturally. Established plants commonly reach approximately 4–6 inches tall and wide, depending on conditions and age. Decorative terracotta pots and styling props are not included.
Care guide
- Light: Provide bright light with gentle morning sun. Introduce stronger sunlight gradually and protect from intense afternoon heat. Low light can cause stretched growth.
- Water: Allow the mix to dry completely, then water thoroughly and let excess water drain. Avoid keeping water trapped around the crown. Reduce watering during cool or low-light periods and never leave containers standing in water.
- Soil: Use a gritty, fast-draining cactus or succulent mix amended with pumice or perlite. Containers must have drainage holes.
- Temperature and humidity: Ordinary indoor temperatures, low to average humidity and good airflow are suitable. Protect from frost, freezing temperatures and prolonged cold rain.
- Feeding: Feed sparingly during active growth with diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer. Avoid heavy feeding or fertilizing a stressed plant.
- Pruning: Remove dry or damaged leaves gently. Handle healthy leaves carefully because they can detach when bumped.
- Repotting: Repot only when roots crowd the container, using a slightly larger pot and fresh gritty mix.
- Propagation: Healthy detached leaves can be allowed to callus, then placed on well-draining mix. Rooting and new growth can be slow; avoid persistently wet conditions.
