Philodendron Ring of Fire, 4-Inch Pot
Bring texture and shifting color to a bright indoor shelf with Philodendron Ring of Fire. Its long, narrow leaves develop irregular lobes and serrated edges as they mature; green, cream, yellow or warmer tones may appear in varying patterns. This live plant is unique, no particular color mix is guaranteed.
Points of interest and size
- One live Philodendron Ring of Fire in a 4-inch nursery grow pot, at a young tabletop scale.
- Estimated mature indoor size: approximately 2–3 feet tall and wide with space to grow.
- Leaf size, edge shape, coloration and fullness vary naturally; younger leaves may look less deeply cut than mature ones.
Care guide
- Light: Bright indirect or filtered light supports growth and variegation. Protect from strong direct afternoon sun, which can scorch leaves.
- Water: Water when the upper 1–2 inches of mix begin to dry, then allow excess to drain completely. Do not leave the roots soggy; reduce watering in cooler, darker periods.
- Soil: Use a chunky, airy, well-draining aroid mix, such as potting soil or coir blended with perlite and orchid bark, in a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity and temperature: Moderate to higher indoor humidity supports unfurling leaves. Keep warm, away from cold drafts and dry heating vents.
- Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, use a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted according to its label about every 4–6 weeks; reduce or pause in winter.
- Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves with clean shears at the petiole base. Rotate the pot for balanced growth and provide room for its spreading foliage; do not remove most healthy leaves at once.
- Repotting: Check roots every 1–2 years and move up one pot size in spring if crowded, using fresh airy mix and keeping the crown at its original depth.
- Propagation: On a sufficiently established plant with a suitable stem and visible node, take a clean node cutting and root it in water or a lightly moist, airy medium in warm indirect light. A young plant may not yet have a suitable cutting; seedless leaf cuttings alone will not make a new plant.
