String of Hearts (Ceropegia woodii), 6-Inch Hanging Pot

String of Hearts (Ceropegia woodii) sends slender, purplish vines over a hanging basket, dotted with small heart-shaped leaves patterned in silver and green. It brings a light, airy look to a bright indoor spot. Leaf pattern, fullness, and trailing length vary naturally from plant to plant.

Size and what ships

One live String of Hearts in a 6-inch nursery hanging pot. The exact plant fullness and vine length at shipping vary. Given time and care, vines can become much longer than those on the plant delivered. The plant ships in its hanging pot.

Care guide

• Light: Give bright indirect light, with a little gentle morning sun if available. Too little light can lead to widely spaced leaves; protect from harsh afternoon sun.
• Water: Allow much of the potting mix to dry between thorough waterings, then let excess drain. Its small tubers store some moisture; avoid keeping the basket constantly wet.
• Soil: Use a loose, fast-draining succulent-style mix in a hanging pot with drainage.
• Temperature and humidity: Keep warm and away from frost. Average indoor humidity is generally suitable; give vines good airflow.
• Feeding: Feed lightly with diluted houseplant fertilizer during active spring and summer growth if needed; reduce in winter.
• Pruning: Untangle and trim vines gently to shape the plant. Shortened stems can encourage a fuller appearance over time.
• Propagation: Stem cuttings with nodes or small aerial tubers, when present, can root in a lightly moist mix. Propagation takes time and results vary.

Pet safety

String of Hearts is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, though keep dangling vines out of reach to prevent chewing or tangling.

Optional planter

For a shelf display, the nursery hanging pot can be styled inside the black Oslo 6-inch planter with the hanger removed. The Oslo planter shown in the styled photo is sold separately; the plant ships in its 6-inch nursery hanging pot. Decorative furnishings are not included.
