Spiral Cactus (Cereus forbesii ‘Spiralis’), 6-Inch Pot
Spiral Cactus (Cereus forbesii ‘Spiralis’) grows a sculptural column with twisting ribs that wind around its green stem. Its unusual corkscrew shape makes an eye-catching focal point beside a sunny window or on a sheltered patio.
Points of interest
- Spiraling ribs create a distinctive architectural silhouette.
- Spines grow along the ribs, adding texture while requiring careful handling.
- Each plant develops its own twist, proportions and growth pattern.
- A columnar cactus that can grow substantially taller with time and suitable conditions.
What you’ll receive and mature size
You’ll receive one live Spiral Cactus growing in a 6-inch nursery pot, approximately 8–12 inches tall at shipping. Height, spiral shape and fullness vary naturally. Established plants can reach several feet tall in containers and considerably taller in suitable frost-free outdoor conditions; growth depends on light, climate, root space and time. Decorative terracotta pots and styling props are not included.
Care guide
- Light: Provide very bright light with several hours of direct sun. Introduce stronger sunlight gradually to avoid sunburn. Indoors, choose your brightest suitable window and watch for stretched or thinning growth.
- Water: Let the potting mix dry completely, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Reduce watering sharply during cool or low-light periods. Never leave the pot standing in water.
- Soil: Use a gritty, fast-draining cactus mix amended with pumice or perlite in a pot with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately.
- Temperature and humidity: Warm conditions, low to ordinary humidity and good airflow suit this cactus. Protect from frost, freezing temperatures and prolonged cold rain.
- Feeding: Feed sparingly during active growth with a slow-release fertilizer, following the label directions. Avoid fertilizing a stressed plant or feeding during a cool winter rest. Ready to feed? Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents for steady nutrition for cacti and succulents, sold separately. Skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Routine pruning is unnecessary. Remove damaged tissue only when needed with clean tools, protecting your hands from the spines.
- Repotting: Repot when roots crowd the container into a slightly larger, stable pot with fresh gritty mix. Use folded newspaper or suitable cactus-handling tools to protect your hands and avoid damaging the stem.
- Propagation: Healthy stem cuttings can be rooted after the cut surface has thoroughly callused. Place in dry, well-draining mix and water cautiously as roots develop.
