Grow a cascade of plump blue-green leaves with Donkey Tail Sedum, a trailing succulent prized for its sculptural stems and easygoing care. Display it on a sunny shelf, patio, or in a hanging planter where the stems can lengthen without being disturbed.

Choose your size and quantity

  • 2-pack: Two live Donkey Tail Sedum plants, each in a 2-inch nursery pot
  • 4-inch pot: One live Donkey Tail Sedum plant in a 4-inch nursery pot

Select your preferred option before adding the plant to your cart. The price and quantity received depend on the option selected.

Plant characteristics

  • Foliage: Closely packed, fleshy blue-green leaves with a rounded, beadlike to teardrop shape
  • Growth habit: Trailing succulent with stems that become longer and fuller over time
  • Mature size: Established stems can trail approximately 2–4 feet with suitable care and enough time
  • Growth note: The leaves detach easily when bumped or handled. Place the plant where its stems can hang without frequent contact.
  • Pet safety: Donkey Tail Sedum is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, although chewing any plant material can cause digestive discomfort

Care guide

  • Light: Provide very bright light with several hours of gentle direct sun when possible. Introduce stronger sunlight gradually to prevent scorching.
  • Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. Water less often during cool or low-light periods, and never leave the pot standing in water.
  • Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix in a container with drainage holes. Extra pumice or perlite can improve drainage.
  • Humidity: Average to low household humidity is suitable. Good airflow and dry foliage help prevent rot.
  • Temperature: Keep in a warm location and protect from frost, freezing temperatures, and prolonged cold.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during spring and summer with a cactus or succulent fertilizer diluted according to its label. Avoid frequent or heavy feeding.
  • Pruning: Trim damaged or overly long stems with clean scissors. Handle gently because the leaves can drop when touched.
  • Propagation: Healthy fallen leaves and stem cuttings can be propagated. Allow cut ends to callus, then place them on or in a dry, well-draining succulent mix and water sparingly after roots begin to form.

What you’ll receive

You will receive the live Donkey Tail Sedum size and quantity selected above. Natural variations in shape, color, stem length, fullness, and clustering are normal for living plants. Some leaf loss can occur during handling and shipping because this succulent’s leaves detach easily. The plants received will be similar to, but not exactly the same as, those shown in the photos.
