Silver Coral (Senecio scaposus) brings striking texture to a sunny plant display with slender, finger-like leaves covered in a silvery-white felted layer. The leaves spread outward from the base, creating a coral shape that contrasts beautifully with rounded rosette succulents. A bright windowsill or sheltered patio lets its unusual foliage take center stage.

Points of interest

  • Fleshy, elongated leaves radiate from a compact base rather than forming broad, petal-like leaves.
  • The silvery covering may naturally split or peel as leaves mature, revealing green underneath.
  • Established plants can develop offsets and form a small cluster over time.
  • Mature plants may produce yellow, daisy-like flowers under suitable growing conditions.

What you’ll receive and mature size

One live Silver Coral succulent growing in a 4-inch nursery pot. Shipping height, leaf count and fullness vary naturally. Mature foliage generally reaches roughly 6–12 inches tall, with clusters spreading wider over time; flower stalks rise above the leaves. Decorative terracotta pots and styling props are not included.

Care guide

  • Light: Provide very bright light with several hours of gentle direct sun. Acclimate gradually to stronger outdoor sunlight and protect from intense afternoon heat when needed. Low light can lead to stretched growth.
  • Water: Allow the potting mix to dry completely before watering thoroughly. Drain excess water and never leave the pot standing in a filled saucer. Reduce watering during cool weather or periods of slow growth. Direct water onto the soil rather than repeatedly soaking the foliage.
  • Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix amended with pumice or perlite, and a container with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately.
  • Temperature and humidity: Ordinary indoor humidity and good airflow are suitable. Protect from frost, freezing temperatures and prolonged cold rain.
  • Feeding: Feed sparingly with a slow-release fertilizer during active growth, following the label directions. Avoid heavy feeding or fertilizing a stressed plant. Ready to feed? Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents for steady nutrition for cacti and succulents, sold separately. Skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
  • Pruning: Gently remove fully dried leaves and spent flower stalks. Avoid rubbing or peeling the leaves’ protective silvery covering.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots fill the container, using fresh gritty mix and a pot only slightly larger. Handle the leaves carefully to avoid damaging their surface.
  • Propagation: Separate established offsets with roots when available. Let any damaged or cut surfaces dry before replanting, and avoid constantly wet soil.

Pet and child safety

Senecio plants are generally considered toxic if eaten. Keep Silver Coral out of reach of pets and children.
