Philodendron Birkin is an upright, self-heading houseplant prized for glossy green leaves that can develop fine cream or pale pinstripes. Each new leaf brings its own pattern; some leaves may be darker green or show different markings as the plant grows. Display it on a bright tabletop where the foliage is easy to see.
Points of interest and size
- One live Philodendron Birkin in a 4-inch nursery grow pot. Height, fullness, and variegation vary naturally; not every leaf will have identical stripes.
- A young tabletop plant when shipped. With suitable care it can grow into a substantially larger upright clump over time; mature size is not its shipping size. This is not sold as a hanging vine.
What you receive

Optional decorative planters

Care guide
- Light: Bright indirect light helps support growth and patterned foliage. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun, which can scorch leaves; low light may yield less distinct markings.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the upper 1–2 inches of mix dry, then let excess drain. Check the soil rather than following a fixed weekly schedule; avoid keeping roots soggy.
- Soil: Use a chunky, airy houseplant or aroid mix with bark and perlite in a pot with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately. Amend with bark and perlite as needed to keep the mix chunky and airy.
- Humidity and temperature: Average to moderate indoor humidity generally suits it. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and drying vents.
- Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, use a balanced slow-release houseplant fertilizer according to its label directions. Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately. Reduce or pause feeding in winter, and skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves with clean shears. Pattern shifts are natural; pruning cannot guarantee a particular future stripe pattern.
- Repotting: When roots crowd the pot, move up one size in fresh airy mix, keeping the base at its original planting depth.
- Propagation: Mature plants may form offsets that can be separated once rooted; not every young plant will have an offset at shipment.
