Care guide

  • Light: Give bright indirect or filtered light to support its two-tone foliage. Protect from prolonged harsh direct sun.
  • Water: Let the upper half of the mix dry before watering thoroughly, then allow excess to drain. Avoid constantly wet roots and water less often in winter.
  • Soil: Use loose, well-draining indoor potting mix with perlite in a pot with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately. Add perlite as needed to keep the mix loose and well-draining.
  • Humidity and temperature: Average household humidity is generally suitable. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and drying vents.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active spring and summer growth with a balanced slow-release houseplant fertilizer according to its label directions. Ready to feed? Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents for steady nutrition for potted houseplants, sold separately. Reduce or pause feeding in winter, and skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
  • Pruning: Remove damaged leaves with clean scissors and pinch leggy stems just above a node to encourage a tidier, fuller shape.
  • Repotting: Peperomia has a modest root system. Check every 1–2 years, moving up only one pot size if crowded or if the mix has broken down.
  • Propagation: Root a healthy stem cutting with at least one node in lightly moist mix in warm indirect light, then pot after roots establish. Stem cuttings are a reliable way to retain the two-tone leaf pattern.
