Mounted Neoregelia ‘Donger’ Bromeliad, 6 × 16-Inch Wood Plank

Mounted Neoregelia ‘Donger’ turns a colorful bromeliad into a living wall display. Green leaves with cream-colored edges and pink tones arch from a moss-wrapped root ball secured to a wood plank, bringing texture and natural color to a bright room or warm, sheltered patio.

Points of interest

  • Kokedama-style display with the root medium wrapped in moss and secured to a wood plank.
  • Green, cream and pink foliage; color intensity varies with light, season and individual plant.
  • Included hanging wire makes this a mounted display rather than a nursery-pot plant.
  • Mature rosettes can produce offsets over time, but a fixed rosette or pup count is not guaranteed.

What ships and estimated mature size

One live mounted Neoregelia ‘Donger’ display on an approximately 6 × 16-inch wood plank, with a moss-wrapped root ball and hanging wire. These are plank dimensions, not guaranteed plant dimensions. Leaf span, rosette count, pink coloration and overall fullness vary naturally. Individual rosettes remain relatively compact; the display can spread beyond the plank as leaves and offsets develop. A fixed mature width is not guaranteed.

Display guidance

The wood plank and attached hanging wire are included. Wall fasteners and other styling accessories are not included. Use a secure fastener suitable for your wall and the display's weight after watering. Protect walls and furnishings from moisture, and let the display drain before rehanging. A decorative pot is not needed for this mounted form.

Care guide

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light or very bright filtered sun. Gentle early-morning sun may be suitable after gradual acclimation; avoid harsh midday and afternoon sun. Suitable brighter light can encourage pink coloration without guaranteeing a particular shade.
  • Water: Check the moss-wrapped root ball frequently. Water when the outer moss begins to dry and the display feels lighter, keeping the root medium lightly moist rather than saturated. Wet the root ball thoroughly over a sink, then allow excess water to drain before rehanging. Do not let it remain waterlogged or dry hard for prolonged periods. Reduce frequency in cooler, dimmer conditions.
  • Leaf cups: Where the rosettes form water-holding cups, keep a little fresh water in them during warm active growth and flush regularly to prevent stagnation. Reduce standing cup water in cool, low-light conditions.
  • Root medium: Keep the existing moss-wrapped mount intact unless it needs renewal. If rebuilding, use an airy bromeliad-appropriate medium rather than dense soil. Our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, sold separately, would need amendment with orchid bark and perlite to make an airy bromeliad mix; do not simply pack it around the existing mount.
  • Humidity: Moderate to elevated humidity and good airflow help a mounted plant manage moisture loss. A humidifier can help in dry rooms; misting alone does not replace thorough root-ball watering.
  • Temperature: Keep warm and frost-free, away from cold drafts and heating vents. Outdoor display is for warm, sheltered conditions; bring indoors before cold weather.
  • Feeding: Feed sparingly during active growth with a fertilizer labeled for bromeliads. Our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents is sold separately; use only if its label supports bromeliad use and application to this mounted root medium. Do not place pellets in leaf cups or scatter them on exposed moss where they can fall off. Skip feeding during paused growth or extreme heat or cold.
  • Pruning: Trim dry or damaged leaves with clean scissors. After flowering, an individual rosette gradually declines while offsets may continue growing; do not mistake this natural cycle for a need to discard the entire display.
  • Remounting: Inspect the hanging wire, attachment and plank periodically, especially after watering. Renew the moss or mounting ties when deteriorated, preserving healthy roots and keeping the rosette centers uncovered.
  • Propagation: Separate well-developed offsets with roots when practical, then establish them in a small draining container or suitable mount. Avoid removing tiny pups prematurely.

Pet safety: Neoregelia bromeliads are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Keep the hanging display secure and out of chewing reach; wire and mounting materials are not pet toys.
