Braided Money Tree (Pachira aquatica), 4-Inch Pot
Braided money tree (Pachira aquatica) pairs a woven young trunk with glossy green leaflets that fan out above it. Often given as a symbol of good fortune, it brings a sculptural touch to a bright tabletop. Braiding, fullness, and leaf arrangement vary naturally.
Points of interest and size
- One live braided money tree in a 4-inch nursery grow pot.
- A young tabletop plant when shipped. With time and suitable indoor care, it may grow several feet tall; prune to keep a manageable shape.
Care guide
- Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. Gentle morning sun can be suitable, but shield from harsh afternoon sun. Rotate periodically for even growth.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of mix dry, then let excess drain. Reduce frequency during cooler, darker months and avoid standing water.
- Soil: Use an airy, well-draining houseplant mix with perlite in a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity and temperature: Average to moderate indoor humidity is generally suitable. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and dry heater vents.
- Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, apply a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted according to its label about monthly; reduce or pause in winter.
- Pruning: Trim leggy growth above a leaf node with clean shears and remove yellowed leaves. Do not force stiff, older braided stems into a new braid.
- Repotting: When roots crowd the nursery pot, move up one pot size in fresh draining mix, keeping the trunk base at its original soil level.
- Propagation: Root healthy stem cuttings with nodes in warm, lightly moist mix or water; a new cutting will not arrive braided.
Pet safety
Pachira aquatica is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Keep it out of reach of pets that chew plants.
