Hypoestes White Splash, also called a polka dot plant, brings white-splashed green foliage to a bright desk or small plant display. Its patterned leaves provide fresh contrast while the plant is still young. Leaf pattern, height, and fullness vary naturally.

Points of interest and size

  • One live young White Splash in a 3.5-inch nursery grow pot.
  • Estimated mature indoor size: approximately 6–12 inches tall and wide with suitable care. Pinching helps maintain compact growth; mature size is not the shipping size.
  • Bright filtered light supports colorful, compact foliage. Small flowers may appear on mature plants, but the patterned leaves are the main attraction.

What you receive

One live Hypoestes White Splash in its 3.5-inch nursery grow pot. Photos illustrate the variety, not a guaranteed exact plant. Decorative planters and furnishings are not included.

Optional decorative planters

Pair it with the black BASEL 4.7-inch planter or white BASEL 4.7-inch planter. Decorative planters are sold separately and not included with the plant.

Care guide

  • Light: Provide bright indirect or filtered light. Protect pale leaf areas from harsh afternoon sun. Low light may reduce contrast and cause leggy growth.
  • Water: Keep the mix lightly moist, not soggy. Check regularly and water as the surface begins to dry, allowing excess to drain. Avoid letting the root ball dry completely or leaving it in standing water. Reduce frequency in cooler, dimmer conditions.
  • Soil: Use an airy, moisture-retentive houseplant mix with perlite in a pot with drainage holes. Shop our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately; amend with perlite as needed for aeration.
  • Temperature and humidity: Keep warm with moderate household humidity. Protect from cold drafts, freezing conditions, and drying heat vents. Good airflow helps in humid spaces.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth, following fertilizer label directions appropriate to a young plant. Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately. Do not overapply in a 3.5-inch pot. Reduce or pause feeding during winter or inactivity and extreme heat or cold; avoid feeding stressed or newly repotted plants.
  • Pruning: Pinch growing tips or trim leggy stems above a node with clean scissors to encourage branching. Remove damaged leaves and spent flowers.
  • Repotting: When roots fill the pot or watering becomes very frequent, move up one pot size into fresh airy mix. Avoid a much larger volume of wet soil and maintain the original planting depth.
  • Propagation: Root healthy stem cuttings with at least one node in water or lightly moist mix in warm, bright indirect light. Remove leaves below the rooting point.
