Gasteria ‘Little Warty’ grows thick, tongue-shaped leaves with mottled green patterns and a raised, pebbly texture. Its compact form makes a distinctive accent for a bright desk or windowsill without needing the intense sun preferred by many other succulents.
Points of interest
- Raised pale bumps and contrasting green markings give the leaves their distinctive texture.
- Thick, blunt-tipped leaves create a sculptural, tongue-like shape.
- Young growth often forms a neat two-ranked arrangement before becoming a fuller cluster.
- Slow growth and occasional offsets allow the plant to gradually fill its container.
What you’ll receive and mature size
You’ll receive one live Gasteria ‘Little Warty’ growing in a 4-inch nursery pot. Shipping fullness, leaf length and markings vary naturally. Established plants commonly reach approximately 6 inches tall, with a similar or wider spread as offsets develop. Decorative terracotta pots and styling props are not included.
Care guide
- Light: Provide bright filtered light or gentle morning sun. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the leaves. Acclimate gradually when moving to a brighter location; very low light can weaken growth.
- Water: Let the potting mix dry completely, then water thoroughly and drain excess water. Avoid keeping water trapped between the leaves. Reduce watering during cool or low-light periods and never leave the pot standing in water.
- Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix amended with pumice or perlite in a pot with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately.
- Temperature and humidity: Ordinary indoor temperatures, including approximately 65–85°F, suit this plant. Provide airflow and low to average humidity; protect from frost, freezing temperatures and prolonged cold rain.
- Feeding: Feed sparingly during active growth with a slow-release fertilizer, following the label directions. Avoid heavy feeding or fertilizing a stressed plant. Ready to feed? Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents for steady nutrition for cacti and succulents, sold separately. Skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Remove dried or damaged leaves gently with clean tools. Routine shaping is unnecessary; protect healthy leaves from bruising.
- Repotting: Repot when roots crowd the container into a slightly larger pot with fresh gritty mix. Keep the crown at its original soil level and avoid burying the leaf bases.
- Propagation: Separate established offsets when they have their own roots. Allow any cut surfaces to dry before potting into well-draining mix, then water cautiously as the plants establish.
Pet and child safety
Gasteria is generally considered non-toxic to pets and people.
