Ficus Decora Ruby Rubber Plant brings bold leaf texture and soft color to a bright indoor room. Its broad, leathery leaves combine green with cream and pink markings, while reddish new growth adds another layer of interest. Display this upright plant on a sturdy table while small, with room to grow into a larger living accent.

Points of interest

  • Broad, glossy leaves with naturally variable green, cream, and pink coloration.
  • Reddish new growth and pink-toned leaf veins add contrast.
  • Upright growth makes a striking alternative to trailing houseplants.
  • Bright light helps support healthy growth and variegation; pink intensity is not guaranteed.

Current and estimated mature size

You receive one rooted plant in a 6-inch nursery pot. The source listing estimates current plants at 16–18 inches tall; height, leaf count, and branching vary naturally. Photos show representative plants. Indoors, a mature plant may reach approximately 6 feet or more under favorable conditions, though pruning, container size, and care influence its eventual size. Mature size is an estimate, not a shipping guarantee.

Optional decorative planters

Consider our White BASEL, Black BASEL, White OSLO, or Black OSLO. Decorative planters are sold separately; the plant ships in its nursery pot. Each has a 6.3-inch opening. Compare the actual nursery pot's outside rim diameter and height before choosing a cover pot. BASEL and OSLO have no drainage holes; retain a removable inner pot with drainage. Use a stable surface for this upright plant.

Care guide

  • Light: Provide bright indirect or filtered light. Gentle morning sun may be suitable after gradual acclimation; protect from harsh afternoon sun. Avoid dim corners, particularly for this variegated plant.
  • Water: Let the upper portion of potting mix dry before watering thoroughly and draining completely. Avoid persistently wet soil or prolonged drying of the entire root ball. Check soil moisture rather than watering on a fixed schedule, and reduce frequency when growth slows.
  • Soil: Use an airy, well-draining houseplant mix in a pot with drainage holes. Our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, sold separately, can be amended with perlite or bark as needed. Avoid compacted, waterlogged soil.
  • Temperature: Keep warm and frost-free, away from cold drafts, hot vents, and abrupt temperature changes. A consistent location helps reduce stress-related leaf drop.
  • Humidity: Typical to moderate indoor humidity is usually suitable. If air is very dry, use a humidifier with gentle airflow rather than relying on misting for lasting humidity.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active spring and summer growth. Our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents is sold separately. Follow the label, avoid combining fertilizer schedules, and pause feeding during slow growth or plant stress.
  • Maintenance: Wipe leaves gently with a damp soft cloth. Prune with clean tools as needed to manage size or encourage branching. Wear gloves when cutting because the milky sap can irritate skin; keep sap away from eyes, children, and pets. Inspect leaf undersides and stems for pests.
  • Repotting: Repot when crowded roots warrant it into a modestly larger pot with drainage, preferably during active growth. Avoid unnecessarily large pots that hold excess moisture.
  • Cover-pot watering: Remove the nursery pot from BASEL or OSLO before watering. Let it drain fully, empty collected water, and return it only after drainage stops.

Pet safety: Rubber plants are not pet-safe. Chewing or ingestion can cause irritation and digestive upset; keep away from cats and dogs.
