Care guide
- Light: Bright indirect or filtered light supports sturdy growth. It can adapt to lower light but may grow more slowly; avoid harsh direct afternoon sun.
- Water: Check the mix before watering. Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches are dry, then let excess drain fully. Reduce frequency during cooler, darker months; avoid leaving the roots soggy.
- Soil: Use loose, well-draining indoor potting mix with perlite in a container with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately; add perlite as needed to maintain aeration and good drainage.
- Humidity and temperature: Normal household humidity is usually suitable. Keep in a warm indoor spot away from cold drafts and hot, dry vents.
- Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, use a balanced slow-release houseplant fertilizer according to its label directions. Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately. Reduce or pause feeding in winter, and skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Remove fully yellowed leaves and trim brown tips with clean scissors. An established cane can be cut back to manage height and encourage new shoots.
- Repotting: Check roots about every 1–2 years; if crowded, move up one pot size in fresh draining mix and keep the original planting depth.
- Propagation: Established plants can be grown from healthy stem or cane cuttings with a node, rooted in water or lightly moist airy mix in warm indirect light. A young plant may not yet have a suitable cane.
