Dracaena Black Beauty Cane
Dracaena Black Beauty Cane brings rich green foliage and an upright, sculptural shape to your indoor plant collection. Leafy crowns grow above distinctive canes, creating a tree-like silhouette that adds a striking accent beside a filtered window or in an office.
Points of interest
- Rich green leaves form leafy crowns above upright canes.
- Slow growth makes this a manageable indoor foliage plant.
- Tolerates lower light, although bright, indirect light supports stronger growth.
What ships and estimated mature size
You will receive one live Dracaena Black Beauty Cane in a 4-inch nursery grow pot. Plant height, cane arrangement, and fullness vary naturally. Photos are representative; decorative planters are not included. An exact shipping height is not specified.
Estimated mature indoor height is approximately 3–4 feet over time, depending on conditions and pruning. Your plant ships as a smaller specimen, not at mature size.
Optional planter pairing
Pair with the white BASEL 4.7-inch planter or black BASEL 4.7-inch planter, sold separately. Check the grow pot dimensions against the planter's interior before use. Keep the plant in its draining nursery pot, remove it for watering, and empty any water collected in the decorative planter.
Care guide
- Light: Bright, indirect or filtered light is ideal. Lower light slows growth. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch leaves.
- Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry before watering thoroughly. Let excess water drain completely. Water less often in low light or cooler months; check the soil rather than following a fixed schedule.
- Water quality: Dracaenas can develop brown tips from mineral buildup or fluoride sensitivity. Consider distilled water, rainwater, or a filter that reduces fluoride if tips brown. Avoid softened water.
- Soil: Use a well-draining indoor potting mix and a pot with drainage holes. Avoid consistently wet soil and standing water. Ready to repot? Shop our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately.
- Temperature: Aim for 65–85°F and protect from temperatures below 60°F, cold drafts, heating vents, and air-conditioning blasts.
- Humidity: Typical household humidity is generally suitable. A humidifier can help in very dry rooms; keep foliage away from drying heat sources.
- Feeding: Feed lightly during active spring and summer growth with a balanced slow-release houseplant fertilizer, following its label directions. Ready to feed? Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately. Reduce or pause feeding when growth slows, and do not feed a stressed plant. Pause feeding during inactivity or extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Remove spent or damaged leaves with clean tools. An established cane can be cut back to manage height and encourage new shoots.
- Maintenance: Gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth, rotate the pot periodically, and remove spent leaves with clean tools. Some lower-leaf loss can occur as the canes mature.
- Repotting: Repot when roots crowd the container, often every 2–3 years. Choose a pot only slightly larger to avoid excess soil that stays wet.
- Propagation: Root a healthy cane or stem cutting with a node in water or lightly moist, airy mix under warm indirect light. A small plant may not yet have a suitable cane for cutting.
- Troubleshooting: Yellow leaves with wet soil can indicate overwatering. Brown tips may relate to water quality, dry air, or inconsistent watering. Inspect regularly for spider mites, mealybugs, and scale.
Pet safety: Dracaena is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children, and contact a veterinarian if a pet eats the plant.
