Donkey Tail Sedum grows a cascade of plump blue-green leaves along sculptural trailing stems. Display it on a sunny shelf, sheltered patio, or in a supported hanging planter where its stems can lengthen without frequent handling.
Points of interest
- Closely packed, fleshy leaves create a rounded, beadlike to teardrop texture.
- Young plants begin compact; trailing stems become longer and fuller over time.
- Leaves detach easily when bumped, so choose a spot away from frequent contact.
- Fallen healthy leaves can be used for propagation.
What you’ll receive and mature size
- 2-pack: Two live plants, each growing in a 2-inch nursery pot.
- 4-inch option: One live plant growing in a 4-inch nursery pot.
Select your preferred option before adding to your cart. Smaller-pot plants are younger; shipping stem length, fullness and color vary naturally. Established stems can trail approximately 2–4 feet with suitable conditions and enough time. Some leaf loss may occur during shipping because the leaves detach easily. Decorative terracotta pots, hanging planters and styling props are not included.
Care guide
- Light: Provide very bright light with several hours of gentle direct sun when possible. Introduce stronger sunlight gradually to prevent scorching.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the mix has dried completely, then drain excess water. Water less often during cool or low-light periods. Never leave the pot standing in water.
- Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix with added pumice or perlite in a container with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately.
- Temperature and humidity: Ordinary to low indoor humidity and good airflow are suitable. Protect from frost, freezing temperatures and prolonged cold rain.
- Feeding: Feed sparingly during active growth with a slow-release fertilizer, following the label directions. Avoid heavy feeding or fertilizing a stressed plant. Ready to feed? Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents for steady nutrition for cacti and succulents, sold separately. Skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Trim damaged or overly long stems with clean scissors. Handle gently to minimize leaf drop.
- Repotting: Repot only when needed into a slightly larger container with fresh gritty mix. Support the stems and move the plant as little as possible to protect the leaves.
- Propagation: Allow healthy fallen leaves or stem cuttings to callus before placing on or in a well-draining mix. Avoid constantly wet conditions; water sparingly as roots develop.
