Dieffenbachia ‘Amy’ Variegated Houseplant, 6-Inch Pot
Dieffenbachia ‘Amy’ brightens an indoor display with broad, pointed leaves patterned in creamy pale tones and green speckles. Darker green edges frame the lighter centers, while upright stems create a lush, layered silhouette. Each leaf carries its own pattern, making this a striking foliage accent for a room with filtered light.
Points of interest
- Cream-and-green patterned foliage with darker leaf margins.
- Broad, pointed leaves on upright stems.
- New leaves unfurl into naturally varied patterns.
- A tropical foliage plant for indoor growing, away from pets and children.
Current and mature size
You receive one rooted plant in a 6-inch plastic nursery pot. The source describes representative plants approximately 18–24 inches tall; individual shipping height and fullness vary. Mature indoor growth may approach approximately 2–3 feet tall under suitable conditions, though eventual dimensions depend on growing conditions and pruning. These are estimates, not guaranteed sizes.
Optional decorative planters
For a coordinated indoor display, consider our White BASEL, Black BASEL, White OSLO, or Black OSLO planters. Decorative planters are sold separately; the plant ships in its nursery pot. Each planter has a 6.3-inch opening, but nursery-pot rims and shapes vary, so check the actual pot's widest diameter and height for fit. BASEL and OSLO have no drainage holes and should be used as removable cover pots, not for direct planting.
Care guide
- Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Filter strong direct sunlight to avoid scorch. Avoid a dark corner, which can weaken growth and reduce the quality of new foliage.
- Water: Water when the upper inch or two of mix begins to dry, then drain thoroughly. Keep the root zone lightly moist without constant saturation. Avoid repeatedly drying the entire root ball or leaving the nursery pot standing in water. Adjust frequency to light, temperature, and growth rather than following a fixed calendar.
- Soil: Use a moisture-retentive but well-draining houseplant mix and a nursery pot with drainage holes. Shop our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, sold separately. Avoid compacted, waterlogged soil.
- Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, feed lightly with a slow-release fertilizer. Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately. Follow its label, avoid overfeeding, and skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Temperature: Keep in a warm indoor space away from cold drafts, air-conditioning vents, and sudden temperature swings. Protect from frost.
- Humidity: Moderate to higher indoor humidity helps maintain leaf quality. Use a humidifier in dry rooms rather than relying on misting for lasting humidity. Maintain gentle airflow and avoid constantly wet foliage.
- Maintenance and handling: Wipe dust from leaves gently with a soft damp cloth. Remove fully yellowed leaves with clean tools. Wear gloves when pruning or repotting; sap can irritate skin and eyes. Wash hands and tools afterward. Repot when roots crowd the container, using fresh mix and a modestly larger pot with drainage.
- Cover-pot watering: Lift the nursery pot out of any BASEL or OSLO planter before watering. Let it drain fully, empty collected water, and return it only after drainage stops.
Pet safety: Toxic to pets if chewed or ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and children.
