Care guide
- Light: Bright filtered or indirect light supports the patterned foliage. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch leaves; low light may reduce growth.
- Water: Water when the top inch or two of soil starts to dry, then allow the nursery pot to drain. Avoid soggy soil or standing water and reduce watering in winter.
- Soil: Use a loose, well-draining indoor or aroid potting mix with perlite in a pot with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Rich Houseplant Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately; add perlite as needed to maintain aeration and good drainage.
- Humidity and temperature: Moderate household humidity is suitable, with higher humidity helpful in dry rooms. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and drying vents.
- Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, use a balanced slow-release houseplant fertilizer according to its label directions. Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately. Reduce or pause feeding in winter, and skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves near the stem with clean scissors. An overgrown cane can be cut back above a node to encourage new growth; avoid contact with sap and wash hands after handling.
- Repotting: Check roots every 1–2 years. If crowded, move up one pot size in spring using fresh draining mix, keeping the same planting depth.
- Propagation: Mature stems can be propagated from sections with at least one node in warm, lightly moist propagation mix; let roots and new growth establish before potting. Wear gloves when handling cut stems.
