Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides), 3.5-Inch Pot
Bring playful shape to a desk or bright shelf with Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides). Nearly circular, glossy green leaves sit on long, slender stems, giving it its coin-plant nickname. Its upright stem and radiating leaves make a compact, graphic accent.
Points of interest and size
- One live Chinese Money Plant in a 3.5-inch nursery grow pot; current height, leaf size and fullness vary.
- Estimated mature indoor size: approximately 12–18 inches tall and wide with suitable care.
- Established plants may produce small offsets around the base, though offsets are not guaranteed at delivery.
Care guide
- Light: Bright indirect light supports compact growth. Avoid harsh afternoon sun, and rotate the pot occasionally for even growth.
- Water: Allow the upper inch or two of soil to dry before watering thoroughly; let the nursery pot drain fully. Reduce watering when growth slows and never leave it standing in water.
- Soil: Use a loose, well-draining indoor potting mix with perlite in a container with drainage holes.
- Humidity and temperature: Average household humidity is generally suitable. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and drying vents.
- Feeding: During spring and summer growth, apply balanced houseplant fertilizer at a diluted strength according to its label about once a month; pause or reduce in winter.
- Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves by snipping their stems near the main stem with clean scissors. Rotate regularly rather than cutting healthy leaves to correct leaning.
- Repotting: Check the roots every 1–2 years. If crowded, move up one pot size with fresh draining mix, keeping the main stem at its previous soil depth.
- Propagation: If the plant produces rooted offsets, gently separate one with its roots and pot it in a small draining container. Unrooted offsets can be rooted in water or moist mix before potting; do not assume every plant has pups.
Pet safety
Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. This ornamental plant is not intended for eating; keep it out of reach of small children.
What you receive
One live Chinese Money Plant in a 3.5-inch nursery pot. Living plants vary in leaf size, stems and fullness. Decorative planters and room furnishings shown in styled photos are not included.
Optional decorative planter
See the plant styled with the white Basel 4.7-inch planter, sold separately. Its opening is wider than a nominal 3.5-inch grow pot, so the pot may sit loosely or need support; measure the nursery pot’s outside width and height before ordering. Basel has no drainage hole. Remove the nursery pot for watering, let it drain, then return it.
