Variegated String of Pearls Succulent, 4-Inch Pot
Variegated String of Pearls (Curio rowleyanus ‘Variegata’, also known as Senecio rowleyanus ‘Variegata’) brings cascading strands of green-and-cream, beadlike leaves to a bright indoor space. Set it on a shelf with room for the stems to trail, or display it in a well-drained hanging container where its delicate pattern can be appreciated up close.
Points of interest
- Rounded, pea-shaped leaves grow along slender trailing stems.
- Cream and green variegation varies naturally from leaf to leaf and plant to plant.
- Its water-storing foliage suits a dry-between-waterings routine, not constantly moist soil.
- Bright light across the top of the pot helps support fuller growth at the crown.
What ships and estimated mature size
You will receive one live Variegated String of Pearls plant in a 4-inch nursery pot. Foliage density, trailing length, and variegation vary naturally; no exact shipping height or strand length is guaranteed. Decorative pots, display accessories, soil, and fertilizer pictured or linked separately are not included.
With suitable care, mature stems can trail approximately 2–3 feet or more. This is an estimated mature length, not the size of the plant shipped. Growth depends on light, season, and growing conditions.
Optional growing supplies
For future repotting, consider our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend. Our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents is an optional feeding supply; follow its label directions and avoid overfeeding. Both are sold separately. Any terracotta planter shown in styling photos is a display prop, not an included container.
Care guide
- Light: Provide bright indirect light and, after gradual acclimation, gentle morning sun. Make sure light reaches the crown, not just the trailing stems. Protect from sudden exposure to intense afternoon sun, which can scorch pale foliage.
- Water: Let the potting mix dry between thorough waterings, then allow excess water to drain completely. Check the soil rather than watering on a fixed schedule. Avoid keeping the crown wet or leaving the pot standing in water; water less often during slower winter growth.
- Soil and drainage: Use a fast-draining succulent mix and a container with drainage holes. Avoid enclosed terrariums and heavy, moisture-retentive soil.
- Temperature and humidity: Ordinary indoor humidity is suitable; misting is unnecessary. Keep in a warm, frost-free location away from cold drafts and heating vents.
- Feeding: Feed sparingly during active spring and summer growth, following the fertilizer label. Do not combine multiple feeding products or fertilize a stressed or very dry plant.
- Pruning: Trim overly long stems with clean scissors to maintain the shape you prefer. Remove dried or damaged growth gently, as stems and leaves can detach during handling.
- Repotting: Repot when the plant is root-bound or the mix no longer drains well, using a container only slightly larger than the root ball. Handle the delicate strands carefully.
- Propagation: Healthy stem cuttings with several nodes can be laid on a lightly moistened, well-draining mix so nodes contact the surface. Keep in bright indirect light and avoid saturation while roots establish.
Pet safety: Not safe for pets or children if eaten. Keep out of reach.
