Variegated Cub’s Paw Succulent, 4-Inch Pot
Variegated Cub’s Paw (Cotyledon ladismithiensis variegata) brings soft texture and playful shape to a succulent collection. Its fleshy, fuzzy leaves combine green and creamy yellow tones with little claw-like tips that may develop a pink or reddish tint in suitable bright light.
Points of interest
- Velvety leaves and small tooth-like tips give this succulent its paw-shaped appearance.
- Natural variegation makes each plant’s pattern unique; color intensity changes with light and growing conditions.
- Branching growth gradually creates a fuller cluster rather than a single rosette.
- Handle gently: fleshy leaves can detach if bumped or squeezed.
What ships and estimated mature size
You will receive one live Variegated Cub’s Paw cluster in a 4-inch plastic nursery pot. Shipping height, branching, fullness, and leaf coloration vary naturally. Photos illustrate the variety rather than an identical plant. Terracotta pots and other decorative containers shown in styled photos are not included.
With time, this branching succulent may reach approximately 12–18 inches tall and wide, depending on growing conditions and pruning. This is an estimated mature size, not the size shipped.
Care guide
- Light: Provide bright light with gentle morning sun after gradual acclimation. A sunny window can suit it indoors, but protect pale variegated areas from sudden intense afternoon sun. Low light can cause stretched, weak growth.
- Watering: Allow the mix to dry throughout the pot before watering thoroughly and letting excess water drain. Do not keep the soil continuously moist or leave roots standing in water. Reduce watering during cool, dim conditions or inactivity. Avoid misting the fuzzy leaves.
- Soil: Use a fast-draining succulent mix in a pot with drainage holes. Shop our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately; amend with pumice or perlite as needed for drainage.
- Temperature and humidity: Warm conditions and average to low household humidity suit it. Provide airflow, protect from frost and freezing conditions, and avoid prolonged dampness. Bring outdoor plants inside before cold weather.
- Feeding: Feed sparingly during active growth according to fertilizer label directions. Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately. Avoid overfeeding; reduce or pause during winter or inactivity and extreme heat or cold. Avoid feeding stressed or newly repotted plants.
- Pruning: Prune leggy stems lightly with clean tools during active growth to encourage branching. Remove fully dry leaves gently without pulling healthy foliage. Avoid excessive pruning of this relatively slow-growing variegated plant.
- Repotting: When roots crowd the pot or the mix deteriorates, move up just one pot size into fresh fast-draining mix. Keep the original planting depth and handle stems carefully to prevent leaf loss.
- Propagation: Stem cuttings are generally more dependable than individual leaves. Let cut ends dry and callus before placing them in an airy succulent mix. Keep in bright indirect light while rooting and avoid wet soil. Variegation may vary in new growth.
Pet safety: Not safe for pets or children to ingest. Keep out of reach and do not allow chewing.
