Pickle Plant (Senecio stapeliiformis) is a succulent with upright, pencil-like stems marked by small bumps and stripes. Its unusual texture gives a sunny shelf a playful, sculptural accent. You’ll receive one rooted live plant in a 4-inch grow pot; decorative terracotta pots in styled photos are props and are not included.
Size and growth: The plant ships rooted in a 4-inch pot. As it matures, its stems can grow taller and form a clump; size and color depend on light and growing conditions. Each live plant varies naturally from the photos.
Care guide
- Light: Provide bright light with some direct sun. Acclimate gradually to stronger afternoon sun.
- Water: Water thoroughly, then let the mix dry well before watering again. Reduce watering when growth slows, and never leave the pot standing in water. Do not keep the soil continuously moist.
- Soil: Use a fast-draining succulent mix and a pot with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately.
- Humidity and temperature: Average indoor humidity is suitable. Keep warm and protect from frost and prolonged dampness.
- Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, feed lightly with a slow-release fertilizer, following the product label. Ready to feed? Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents for steady nutrition for cacti and succulents. Skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Remove damaged or dried stems with clean tools.
- Repotting: Move to a slightly larger pot when crowded; handle stems gently.
- Propagation: Stem cuttings may root after their cut ends dry and callus; set them in a lightly moist, well-draining mix.
Pet and child safety: Keep this plant away from pets and children. It may be toxic if eaten.
