Hypoestes Rose Splash, also called pink polka dot plant, has little green leaves splashed and speckled with rose pink. This young plant adds color to a bright desk or shelf; each plant’s pattern and fullness vary naturally.
Points of interest and size
- One live rooted Rose Splash in a 3.5-inch nursery grow pot.
- A young plant when shipped. With time and care, plants may reach roughly 6–12 inches tall and wide indoors; pinching can keep them compact. Small flowers may appear on mature plants under suitable conditions, but the patterned leaves are the main attraction.
Care guide
- Light: Bright indirect light brings out the pink. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun, which may scorch foliage. In low light, pink color and compact growth can fade.
- Water: Keep the mix lightly moist, not soggy. Check regularly and water as the surface begins to dry; let excess water drain and avoid letting the root ball dry completely.
- Soil: Use an airy, moisture-retentive houseplant mix with perlite in a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity and temperature: Moderate humidity helps prevent crispy edges. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and drying vents.
- Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, apply a balanced fertilizer diluted according to its label about monthly; reduce or pause in winter.
- Pruning: Pinch the growing tips to encourage branching; remove leggy stems and spent flowers with clean scissors.
- Repotting: When roots fill the nursery pot or watering becomes very frequent, move up one pot size in fresh airy mix.
- Propagation: Root healthy stem cuttings with a node in water or lightly moist mix under warm bright indirect light.
Pet safety
Hypoestes is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. Keep it out of reach of pets that nibble plants.
