Haworthia coarctata brings sculptural texture to a bright shelf or windowsill with tightly stacked, pointed green leaves dotted with pale raised bumps. Its upright, column-like growth and natural offsets create a compact cluster that is easy to enjoy without needing a large display space.

Points of interest

  • Leaves stack around short upright stems, creating distinctive textured columns.
  • Pale raised markings contrast with the green foliage.
  • Offsets develop around the base, gradually forming a fuller colony.
  • Bright indirect light suits this plant better than prolonged harsh afternoon sun.
  • Established plants may produce slender flower stalks with small pale flowers.

What you’ll receive and mature size

One Haworthia coarctata cluster growing in a 4-inch nursery pot. Approximately 2–3 plants per pot; offset count, shipping height and fullness vary naturally. Individual columns can reach roughly 4–8 inches tall over time, with the cluster spreading wider as offsets develop. Decorative terracotta pots and styling props are not included.

Care guide

  • Light: Provide bright indirect light or gentle morning sun. Introduce direct sun gradually and protect from strong afternoon sun. Excessive sun or other stress can cause reddish-brown coloring; low light can loosen the compact growth.
  • Water: Allow the potting mix to dry before watering thoroughly, then drain excess water. Do not keep the soil continually moist or leave water standing in a saucer. Avoid water collecting between the leaves. Water less during cool weather or periods of slow growth.
  • Soil: Use a gritty, fast-draining succulent mix with added pumice or perlite and a pot with drainage holes. Ready to repot? Shop our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend, hand-blended in small batches and sold separately.
  • Temperature and humidity: Ordinary indoor humidity and good airflow are suitable. Protect from frost, freezing temperatures and prolonged cold rain. In hot weather, growth may slow and watering needs may decrease.
  • Feeding: Feed sparingly with a slow-release fertilizer during active growth, following the label directions. Avoid heavy feeding or fertilizing a stressed plant. Ready to feed? Shop our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents for steady nutrition for cacti and succulents, sold separately. Skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
  • Pruning: Remove fully dried lower leaves and spent flower stalks gently. No routine shaping is needed.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots or offsets fill the container, choosing a pot only slightly larger and refreshing the gritty mix.
  • Propagation: Separate offsets with established roots when available. Allow any cut or damaged surfaces to dry before replanting, and avoid soggy soil while they settle in.
