Fockea crispa, caudiciform succulent

Fockea crispa is a distinctive, slow-growing succulent admired for its thickened base and sculptural stems. Its compact form and restrained foliage give it a miniature, bonsai-like presence. Each plant develops at its own pace, so the caudex shape and amount of foliage naturally vary.

Points of interest

  • Characterful caudex: The swollen base stores water and gradually develops its own shape and texture.
  • Fine stems and foliage: Slender growth adds a light contrast to the substantial base.
  • Living sculpture: A distinctive specimen for a bright windowsill or carefully arranged succulent display.

Size and what ships

You’ll receive one live Fockea crispa in a 4-inch nursery pot. The plant’s height, caudex shape, and foliage vary. The caudex enlarges gradually with age and growing conditions; mature size is not guaranteed.

Care guide

  • Light: Give it a bright position and some direct sun. Acclimate it gradually when moving into stronger light to reduce the risk of scorch.
  • Water: Use a light hand. Let the fast-draining mix dry thoroughly before watering again, and never leave the pot standing in water. Water less in cool or dormant periods.
  • Soil: Choose a gritty cactus or succulent mix that drains freely, in a pot with drainage holes.
  • Temperature: Keep it warm; the existing care notes indicate a preferred range of about 70–90°F. Protect from frost and prolonged cold.
  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is fine. Good air circulation is helpful; misting is unnecessary.
  • Feeding: During active growth, feed lightly with diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer according to its label. Avoid heavy feeding and pause when growth slows.
  • Pruning and support: If stems lengthen, offer gentle support or trim selectively to maintain the shape.
  • Repotting: Repot when the roots fill the nursery pot, using a container only slightly larger and fresh fast-draining mix. Avoid burying the exposed caudex.

Pet and child safety

Keep the plant out of reach of pets and young children, and do not allow chewing. If any part is ingested, contact a veterinarian or poison-control professional.
