Dracaena Tornado earns its name from the twist of its narrow, arching leaves. Bands of green and yellow sweep around a compact center, making a lively tabletop accent. Leaf pattern, twist and fullness vary naturally from plant to plant.

  • A compact young plant when shipped; estimated mature indoor height is about 3–4 feet over time in suitable conditions.

Care guide

  • Light: Bright indirect or filtered light helps maintain the green-and-yellow pattern. It tolerates lower light but may grow more slowly. Avoid strong direct afternoon sun.
  • Water: Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of mix feel dry, then let the pot drain completely. Reduce watering in cooler or darker months; do not leave it standing in water.
  • Soil: Use loose, well-draining indoor potting mix with perlite in a pot with drainage holes.
  • Humidity and temperature: Normal household humidity is generally suitable. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and dry blasts from heating vents.
  • Feeding: During spring and summer growth, use balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted according to its label about monthly; reduce or pause in winter.
  • Pruning: Remove spent leaves or trim brown leaf tips with clean scissors. An established cane can be cut back to manage height and encourage new shoots.
  • Repotting: Check roots every 1–2 years. If crowded, move up one pot size in fresh draining mix, keeping the original planting depth.
  • Propagation: An established plant can be propagated from a healthy cane or stem cutting with a node, rooted in clean water or lightly moist airy mix under warm indirect light. A small plant may not yet have a suitable cane.

What you receive and optional planter

One live Dracaena Tornado in its 4-inch nursery grow pot. The white Basel 4.7-inch decorative planter is sold separately. Measure the nursery pot’s outside width before ordering to confirm fit. Basel has no drainage hole: remove the nursery pot for watering, let it drain fully, then return it. Decorative furnishings are not included.
