Fenestraria rhopalophylla, commonly called Baby Toes, forms compact clumps of upright, finger-like succulent leaves with translucent windows at their tips. Its sculptural shape makes a small, bright accent for a sunny shelf. Leaf count, color, and fullness vary naturally.
Size and what ships
One live Baby Toes succulent in a 2-inch nursery grow pot. The plant’s fullness and leaf count at shipping vary. With time, offsets can build a low clump that may spread roughly 3–5 inches across, depending on growing conditions.
Care guide
- Light: Provide very bright light with some direct sun. Acclimate gradually to stronger sun to reduce the risk of scorch; indoors, place near a bright sunny window.
- Water: Let the gritty mix dry completely between waterings. During active growth, water thoroughly and allow excess to drain. Water much less in hot or dormant periods; avoid leaving the plant in wet soil.
- Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix amended with pumice or perlite, in a pot with drainage holes.
- Temperature and humidity: Keep warm and frost-free with good airflow. Average indoor humidity is suitable; protect from prolonged cold and damp conditions.
- Feeding: If the plant is actively growing, feed lightly with diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer. Skip feeding while growth is paused.
- Pruning: No regular pruning is needed. Remove only fully dried leaves carefully, leaving healthy leaves undisturbed.
- Repotting: Repot when the clump becomes crowded, using a slightly wider, shallow container with drainage and fresh gritty mix.
- Propagation: Established clumps can be divided when offsets have formed. Let any separated section dry briefly before planting in dry, well-draining mix.
