Aeonium ‘Medusa’ makes a striking focal point with broad, spoon-shaped leaves arranged in a sculptural rosette. Its variegation combines green and creamy areas with dark burgundy tones and pink-red edges. Color shifts with light, season, and growing conditions, giving this succulent an ever-changing appearance on a bright windowsill or sheltered patio.

Points of interest

  • Bold rosettes with green, cream, burgundy, and pink-red coloring.
  • Broad, spoon-shaped leaves with naturally varied markings.
  • Can develop branching stems and additional rosettes with maturity.
  • Typically grows most actively in cooler weather and may rest during hot summer conditions.
  • A colorful container specimen; leaf color and fullness vary seasonally.

What ships and estimated mature size

You will receive one live Aeonium ‘Medusa’ growing in a 6-inch nursery pot. Plant height, rosette diameter, branching, and color vary naturally; a fixed height or number of rosettes is not guaranteed. Decorative terracotta pots and other styling accessories are not included and are sold separately.

Under favorable conditions, mature plants can form a branching specimen roughly 2–3 feet tall and wide. Container growing, pruning, light, and climate influence eventual size. These are estimates rather than guaranteed dimensions.

Optional planter pairing

Choose a terracotta pot with a drainage hole when repotting is needed, only slightly larger than the root system. Avoid oversized containers and pots that trap standing water. Terracotta shown in styled photos is a separately sold prop, not the nursery pot that ships with your plant.

Care guide

  • Light: Provide very bright light with gentle direct sun. Acclimate gradually to stronger exposure, and protect the variegated leaves from intense afternoon sun and heat. Indoors, use a bright window or suitable grow light. Color varies naturally; do not force stronger coloring through excessive sun exposure.
  • Watering: During active growth, let the mix dry substantially between thorough waterings, then drain fully. Never leave the pot standing in water. Reduce watering during hot-weather dormancy, when rosettes may tighten and shed older leaves. Do not try to reverse dormancy by keeping the soil wet. Follow the plant’s growth and conditions rather than a fixed weekly schedule.
  • Soil: Use a fast-draining mix such as our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend, sold separately. Add pumice or similar mineral material if your conditions cause the mix to stay wet too long. Always use a draining container.
  • Humidity: Normal household humidity is suitable. Provide good air circulation; avoid misting, sealed terrariums, and persistently damp foliage.
  • Temperature: Favor mild, frost-free conditions. Protect from freezing temperatures and prolonged extreme heat. Move outdoor containers to shelter when cold weather or heavy, persistent rain threatens.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly only while actively growing. Our Slow-Release Fertilizer, sold separately, can be used according to its directions for potted succulents. Time feeding to active growth rather than automatically applying it during hot summer dormancy, and do not combine it with additional routine fertilizer.
  • Pruning: Remove fully dried lower leaves gently. Trim leggy stems with clean tools during active growth if desired. Avoid removing healthy leaves simply because seasonal coloring changes.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots or branching growth outgrow the container, preferably during active growth rather than summer dormancy. Move only one pot size larger and preserve healthy roots.
  • Propagation: Stem cuttings with a healthy rosette are the most practical method once the plant has suitable branching growth. Let the cut end callus before placing it in a gritty mix. Ordinary leaf-cutting propagation is unreliable for aeoniums.

Pet safety: Aeoniums are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
