Welcoming Your Plant Home
Shipping is a big journey for a plant. A few simple steps in the first days will help it settle in and bounce back.
Note: The soil and watering steps below are for potted plants. Air plants need care specific to their variety.
- Unbox right away. Open the box as soon as your plant arrives, and remove the packaging carefully, holding the pot rather than pulling on stems or leaves.
- Tidy up. Brush off any soil that landed on the leaves or spilled during transit. A soft cloth or gentle shake works well.
- Top up the soil. If some soil shifted out of the pot, add fresh potting mix to bring it back to level and cover any exposed roots.
- Check before you water. Press a finger about an inch into the soil. If it's dry, water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom. If it's still damp, wait a few days, since overwatering a stressed plant can cause more harm than thirst.
- Find the right spot. Place your plant in bright, indirect light. Hold off on direct sun for the first week or two, even for sun-loving varieties, and let it gradually adjust to its new home.
- Trim any damage. Snip off bent stems, torn leaves, or yellowing foliage with clean scissors. This lets the plant put its energy into healthy new growth.
- Give it time. Some leaf drop or droopiness in the first couple of weeks is normal. Hold off on repotting or fertilizing for 2–4 weeks while your plant recovers.
