Tradescantia ‘Pink Panther’ fills a small pot with fine stems and little leaves brushed in green, pale cream, and pink. Place it on a bright shelf where its color and gradually trailing growth can be enjoyed. Leaf color, fullness, and stem length vary naturally; brighter filtered light generally helps maintain the pink tones.

Size and what ships

One live Tradescantia ‘Pink Panther’ in a 4-inch nursery grow pot. The plant ships as a compact, clustered specimen; with time its stems can lengthen and drape.

Care guide

  • Light: Bright indirect light or gentle morning sun supports colorful foliage. It may grow in lower light, but pink variegation can fade; shield it from intense afternoon sun.
  • Water: Water when the top layer of mix feels dry, then allow excess to drain. Avoid keeping roots constantly soggy or letting the entire small root ball stay dry for long.
  • Soil: Use an airy, well-draining indoor potting mix in a container with drainage holes.
  • Humidity and temperature: Average indoor humidity is usually suitable. Protect from freezing temperatures, cold drafts, and hot dry vents.
  • Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, feed lightly with diluted balanced houseplant fertilizer about monthly if needed; reduce in winter.
  • Pruning: Pinch or trim long stems above a leaf node to encourage branching and a fuller shape. Remove any completely green reverted stems if you want to favor variegated growth.
  • Repotting: Move one size up when roots fill the nursery pot, using fresh draining mix.
  • Propagation: Stem cuttings with nodes can root in water or moist mix and be replanted for a fuller pot.

Pet safety

Tradescantia can irritate pets if chewed or if its sap contacts sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs that nibble plants.

Optional planter

This 4-inch plant fits the white Basel 4.7-inch planter with a little room around the nursery pot. The Basel planter in the styled photo is sold separately; the plant ships in its 4-inch nursery pot. Furnishings are not included.
