String of Frogs, a small-leaved form of creeping fig often called Oak Leaf Creeping Fig (Ficus pumila ‘Quercifolia’), has tiny green, lobed leaves along fine trailing stems. Its textured foliage makes a charming detail on a bright shelf or in a small plant display. Leaf shape and vine length vary from plant to plant.

Size and what ships

One live String of Frogs in a 3.5-inch nursery grow pot. The plant and vines shown in photos illustrate its appearance, not a guaranteed shipping length. With time and suitable conditions the creeping stems can lengthen beyond their compact shipping size.

Care guide

  • Light: Bright indirect light or gentle morning sun. Protect delicate leaves from harsh afternoon sun.
  • Water: Water thoroughly when the upper surface of the potting mix begins to dry, and let excess drain. Aim for lightly moist, not soggy soil; do not let the root ball remain bone dry for long.
  • Soil: Use an airy, moisture-retentive potting mix in a container with drainage holes.
  • Humidity and temperature: Moderate indoor humidity helps tender growth; keep away from drying heat vents, cold drafts, and freezing temperatures. A humidifier can help in very dry rooms.
  • Feeding: During active spring and summer growth, feed lightly with diluted balanced houseplant fertilizer about monthly; reduce in winter.
  • Pruning: Trim trailing stems to encourage branching and keep the plant compact.
  • Repotting: When roots fill the nursery pot, move just one pot size up, preserving drainage; avoid placing this plant directly into a much larger wet soil volume.
  • Propagation: Healthy stem cuttings with nodes can root in moist mix under warm, humid conditions.

Pet safety

Creeping fig contains irritating sap and should be kept out of reach of cats and dogs that chew plants.

Optional planter

A small smooth white decorative pot shown in styled photos is sold separately; only the plant in its 3.5-inch nursery grow pot ships. Remove the nursery pot to water and let it drain before replacing it in any decorative pot without a drainage hole.
