Echeveria derenbergii Painted Lady brings soft blue-green rosettes and pink-tipped leaves to a sunny windowsill or succulent arrangement. Its compact shape makes it an easy accent for small spaces, with offsets gradually forming a clustered display.
Points of interest
- Fleshy, closely layered leaves form tidy rosettes with a soft, powdery finish.
- Pink to reddish tips can become more noticeable with suitable light; color varies with season and growing conditions.
- Offsets can develop around the parent rosette as the plant matures.
Size and what ships
One live plant shipped in a 4-inch nursery pot. Plant height, rosette count, color and fullness vary; pot size is not a guaranteed plant diameter. Mature individual rosettes are typically about 3–4 inches across, with offsetting clumps spreading wider over time. Decorative pots and styling accessories are not included and are sold separately.
Care guide
- Light: Provide very bright light with some gentle direct sun. Acclimate gradually to stronger sun to avoid scorching. Indoors, choose a sunny window; stretched growth usually signals insufficient light.
- Water: Let the mix dry completely before watering thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain. Water the soil rather than the rosette, and never leave the pot standing in water. Reduce watering when growth slows.
- Soil and pot: Use a gritty, fast-draining succulent mix in a pot with drainage holes. Our Succulent & Cactus Soil Blend is hand-blended in small batches and sold separately. Add mineral grit as needed for your conditions.
- Temperature: Keep in a warm, airy spot and protect from frost. Shelter outdoor plants from prolonged rain and extreme afternoon heat.
- Feeding: Feed sparingly during active growth with our 2 oz Slow-Release Fertilizer for Houseplants & Succulents, sold separately, following the label for the container size. Skip feeding while growth is paused or during extreme heat or cold.
- Pruning: Remove dry lower leaves gently and trim spent flower stalks if they appear. Avoid rubbing the leaves, which can mark their natural protective coating.
- Repotting: Repot when crowded or when the mix no longer drains well. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the root system and keep the crown above the soil surface.
- Propagation: Separate rooted offsets or try healthy leaf cuttings. Allow cut surfaces to callus before placing in dry, well-draining mix; not every leaf will root.
Pet safety: Echeveria are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
