Dracaena Lemon Surprise brings a lively sweep of color to a desk or shelf. Its narrow, gently arching leaves grow in dense rosettes, with green and lemon-yellow striping that gives each plant its own pattern. New growth rises from the center as the plant slowly gains height.

Care guide

• Light: Bright indirect or filtered light maintains its striping. It can tolerate lower light, though growth and color may become less pronounced. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun.
• Water: Check soil rather than following a fixed schedule. Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches feel dry and let excess drain; water less often in cooler, darker months. Do not leave the pot sitting in water.
• Soil: Use a loose, well-draining houseplant mix with perlite in a pot with drainage holes.
• Humidity and temperature: Typical indoor humidity is suitable. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and drying heater vents.
• Feeding: During spring and summer growth, feed about monthly with a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted according to its label; pause or reduce in winter.
• Pruning: Snip dry leaf tips or remove fully spent leaves with clean scissors. An established cane can be cut back to control height and encourage new growth.
• Repotting: Check roots every 1–2 years. If crowded, move up just one pot size with fresh draining mix and maintain the same planting depth.
• Propagation: Established plants can be propagated from stem or cane sections with nodes, rooted in water or lightly moist airy mix in warm indirect light. A small plant may not yet have a suitable cane to cut.

Measure the nursery pot’s outside width before ordering to confirm fit. Basel has no drainage hole: remove the nursery pot to water, let it drain fully, then return it. Decorative furnishings are not included.
