Coffee Plant (Coffea arabica), 4-Inch Pot
Bring the lush look of a young Coffee Plant (Coffea arabica) to a bright shelf or side table. Its oval, glossy deep-green leaves have gently rippled edges and grow along slender stems. With ideal conditions as it matures, a coffee plant can bloom with fragrant white flowers and produce coffee cherries.
Points of interest and size
- One live young Coffee Plant in a 4-inch nursery grow pot. This listing previously described plants around 8–12 inches tall; individual height and fullness vary.
- Estimated mature indoor height: approximately 3–6 feet with suitable care and space; pruning can keep it smaller.
- Deep-green glossy foliage brings a tropical feel to a bright indoor spot.
Care guide
- Light: Give bright indirect or filtered light. Protect young leaves from prolonged harsh direct sun; too little light slows growth.
- Water: Water when the upper inch of soil begins to dry, then let excess drain fully. Aim for lightly moist, not waterlogged, soil during active growth and reduce watering in cooler, dimmer months.
- Soil: Use a loose, well-draining, slightly acidic indoor potting mix with perlite in a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity and temperature: Moderate or higher humidity helps foliage thrive. Keep warm and away from cold drafts and drying vents.
- Feeding: Feed in spring and summer with balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted according to its label about monthly. Pause or reduce in winter.
- Pruning: Pinch or trim new growth above a leaf node to manage height and encourage branching; remove dead or damaged leaves with clean scissors.
- Repotting: Check roots every 1–2 years and move up one pot size if crowded, using fresh draining mix and keeping the same planting depth.
- Propagation: Root a healthy stem cutting with several nodes in a warm, humid spot with bright indirect light, using moist propagation mix; allow roots to establish before potting. Coffee plants can also be grown from fresh viable seeds.
